The Syncopation book, and books like it that contain 'figures', work well for interpretation of chart figures to the drum kit. One might take the same four bar chunk of figures and try to make it sound correct within all the styles taught in levels 1-4. This might lead to developing the skill of playing musically via the knowledge of using the kit parts along with dynamics within the context of each figure.

The structure of these figures is user friendly with regard to their interpretation on the kit in all styles of music. By reading them, one won't have to think of what to play, just how to play it. The how part is what is addressed in the private lessons.
